Government Shutdowns & Baloney
We believe in telling it like it is and the following article is a great example. We are reminded of just how clear it is that the current administration running the US Government is nothing short of criminal. We couldn’t agree more.
Government Shutdowns and
By Gene Lalor
In its typically never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste fashion, the Obama administration is currently engaged in fear-mongering over the possibility that the government of the United States of America will ‘shut down’ as of October 1, 2013 barring a stopgap congressional continuing resolution to temporarily fund federal government activities – or a total collapse of Republican integrity and utter denial of GOP fiscal principles.
President Barack Hussein Obama inexplicably contended that raising the debt ceiling, aka the national debt maximum or public debt, will have absolutely no impact on the national/public debt, which is itself an absurdity. Then he unabashedly admitted to Dave Letterman last week that he couldn’t remember how big our national debt actually is!
Apparently, he couldn’t remember either that in 2006 he had strongly opposed raising America’s debt limit [because it] is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.
What baldfaced hypocrisy!
In point of fact, a federal government ‘shut down’ would not be catastrophic at all, any more than the paltry 2% cuts ($84.4 billion) in federal spending due to budget sequestration resulted in catastrophe.
Highlighting that reality, this month Reason.com listed 17,679 ‘Things the Federal Government Has Done Since Sequestration’ including such laws and regulations as: 2013-04791 (3/1/13) Incidental Taking of Marine Mammals; Taking of Marine Mammals Incidental to the Explosive Removal of Offshore Structures in the Gulf of Mexico, 2013-06070 (3/18/13) Government-Owned Inventions; Availability for Licensing, and 2013-10385 (5/2/13) Controlled Import Permits. Since Obama became president, he and Congress have increased the national debt limit no less than 7 times, adding $43,000 in debt for every American household. The last time it was hiked earlier this year, House Republicans’ only demand was that Senate Democrats finally produce a budget. Still, not a dime was saved.
Should the politicians not agree on a budget that basically, for a time, saves our country from economic collapse, essential services such as air traffic control and the Veterans’ Administration and the military and the Post Office would still be in business. Social Security checks would still be in the mail or direct-deposited and disaster relief and Medicaid and Medicare patients would not be affected nor would federal courts.
The people who would most feel the effects of a ‘shut down’ would principally be federal government employees, new passport applicants, tourists anxious to see our national parks, and independent contractors hoping for new contracts. However, since most federal employees are grossly overpaid and waiting awhile for a passport or for entrance to Yellowstone or for a chance to bilk Washington isn’t much of a burden, they should be able to cope.
What Republicans would accomplish by not going along with hiking the debt limit is to accent their agreement with then-Senator Obama views that ‘It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies’ and re-emphasize their commitment to fiscal sanity in America.
That achievement would far exceed the jollies RINO’s would get from the empty plaudits heaped on them by Obama’s sycophantic mainstream media.
