eighth-grade-exam-foundIt’s no secret that Americans aren’t as intelligent or literate as we were just 100 years ago. There are many theories as to the root causes, ranging from mercury poisoning from amalgam dental fillings, union controlled schooling and decades of welfare loafers out breeding productive members of society. As usual, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

This has huge implications for Baby Boomers who are depending upon younger generations to maintain civil society and keep entitlement payments and pensions flowing as we age.

Here’s a short test routinely administered to eighth grade students in 1912. How many of today’s eighth graders, high schoolers or even university graduates do you think could pass this test today?
